A challenge

A few weeks ago my colleague, Linda Martin, who blogs for other advanced academic resource teachers wrote about issuing a challenge to her students to create dice that would always roll a win.

I work with a group of 7 fourth graders and decided to issue this challenge to them as an optional activity.  Only one took up the challenge and this is what he brought me the following week.

A set of dice to always roll a win.

When I asked him to explain his choices he said that “7” and “11” are THE winning numbers so one die has all 5’s and the other has 3 2’s and 3 6’s so you would always roll either a 7 or an 11.  Clever young man!
