A bird hide in Kruger is a place where people can sit and observe nature up close while staying unseen. Usually it is has a walkway with high fences leading to an enclosure with benches to sit on and a long slit-like window to see out and observe. Our first opportunity to try a bird hide came near Letaba where we went to the Matambeni Bird Hide. This hide sits high on a cliff overlooking the Letaba river. Not only did we see lots of birds but we saw crocodiles and hippos, although because we were so high up they seemed rather far away. We were all alone here and it had a very magical feeling as you could sit quietly and hear all the sounds around you. It was also drizzly this day.
